So This Is Entrecard… – Part 1
-
So after hearing about Entrecard for a while, I’ve finally decided to sign up after seeing this post from Random Ramblings and go see for myself what it’s all about.
This is my contest entry for the contest above btw ^_^ I’ve never done any of these contests before so I thought it might be fun plus I get something to write about in a post.
So what exactly is Entrecard? Well from all I’ve seen so far, it’s a more sophisticated widget/button exchange network. Though it is more sophisticated than some other networks, it is far from being without flaws.
Okay, so in Entrecard, the value of your blog increases more and more as more people start advertising on your blog, right? That’s simple enough to understand and makes sense, right? I thought so too but little did I know, that after viewing over the potential advertisers and rejecting 4/5 of them for various good reasons, I actually DEVALUED the price of my site.
WTF? Am I spose to allow button images of girls barely dressed or sites that look like complete spam on my blog just so my site on EC won’t lose value? So I either ruin my blog with some bad linking to other blogs OR my Entrecard value decreases… hmm…
Next thing, their widgets… take a look at one of the three below…
You need to put one of these on your blog in order to participate but wtf? Why does the size of it have to be 127×148? What kind of weird numbers are those? Why not make it 125×125 so that other bloggers and I can actually fit it into one of those boxes in my sidebar? Other sizes include 200×127 and 250×127… 127… 127… ARGH
My last issue is that they don’t allow pop-ups on your blog else you won’t get accepted. I mean ok, I understand no pop-ups make perfect sense but then they won’t even allow me to show my subscription box cause they consider that a pop-up…
I mean, don’t get me wrong, Entrecard is a pretty decent (if not the best) button exchange which can definitely bring extra traffic to any site but it might not be suited for everyone.
I’ve looked over John Chow’s site now which was supposedly be one of the best blogs in the EC network just to see that he no longer is using it. Instead, he chose to have his subscription pop-up there instead.
Now don’t misunderstand again, I’ll still be using Entrecard to see how it goes and everything. Plus I need the extra traffic after this blog sort of died for 2-3 months when I got lazy/was busy with other things, losing PR (page rank) and my readers =(
Just how much more traffic can you expect from EC? I have no clue but I’ll keep everyone updated as I continue using it.

Entrecard is great, but you have to work at it. Heck, I just found *you* via Entrecard!
Use the toolbar, drop often, and make sure you approve ads. Check out the forums too – there’s some great traffic exchanges there to swap digg, stumbles, etc.
And if you can, drop comments on some of the blogs you visit. It helps us all :)
